In the setting of discrete dynamical systems, the word \textit{chaos} is reserved to say that a system exhibits a complicated dynamics. However there is not a universal definition of what means ``complicated dynamics''; some of the notions related to this idea are: Devaney chaos, Li-Yorke chaos, distributional chaos, positive topological entropy and the new definition of \(P\)-chaos introduced in this paper. It is known that the above notions are not equivalent, however it is important to reveal the implications between them. This work is a contribution to this problem. Let \(f\) be a self mapping on a continuum (i.e. nondegenerate, compact, connected metric space) \(X\). The map \(f\) is said to be \textit{\(P\)-chaotic} if (i) the set of all periodic points of \(f\) is dense in \(X\) and (ii) for any \(\epsilon>0\) there exists \(\delta >0\) so that if a sequence \(\{x_i\}_{i\in\mathbb{N}}\subset X^{\mathbb{N}}\) satisfies \(d(f(x_i),x_{i+1})<\delta\) then there exists \(x\in X\) such that \(d(f^i(x),x_i)<\epsilon\) (this second property is called \textit{pseudo orbit tracing property}). With this definition, the following main results are proved: 1. If \(f\) is \(P\)-chaotic then it is transitive. 2. If \(f\) is \(P\)-chaotic then it is chaotic in the sense of Devaney. 3. If \(f\) is \(P\)-chaotic then it is distributionally chaotic of type 1. 4. If \(f\) is \(P\)-chaotic then it has positive topological entropy. Finally, we remark that if \(f\) has positive topological entropy or is Devaney chaotic then \(f\) is Li-Yorke chaotic, see the papers by \textit{F. Blanchard, E. Glasner, S. Kolyada} and \textit{A. Maass} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 547, 51--68 (2002; Zbl 1059.37006)] and by \textit{W. Huang} and \textit{X. Ye} [Topology Appl. 117, No.~3, 259--272 (2002; Zbl 0997.54061)]. Therefore \(P\)-chaos also implies Li-Yorke chaos.
