It is known the the mesh generation in the finite element method is very time consuming, and in some cases it takes more than 70 \% of the computing work. One way to avoid this is to use the so called ``radial basis functions''. A drawback of this method is that the boundary conditions cannot be satisfied by them making difficult to prove convergence. This difficulty can be avoided in some methods as the Lagrange multipliers method. Convergence rates for the approximate solutions are given for the model problem: \[ -\Delta u+u=f \quad\text{in } \Omega, \qquad u=g \quad \text{on } \partial\Omega, \] where \(\Omega\) is a multidimensional domain. Several examples showing the efficiency of the method are presented.
