The authors consider the problem \[ \begin{cases} \partial_tu(t,x)+\partial_x\left( \frac{u^2}{2}\right) (t,x)+L_\lambda[u](t,x)=0, &(t,x)\in \mathbb R^+\times \mathbb R,\\ u(0,x)=u_0(x), &x\in \mathbb R, \end{cases}\tag{1} \] where \(L_\lambda\) is the non-local operator defined for all Schwartz function \(\varphi\in S(\mathbb R)\) through its Fourier transform by \({\mathcal F}(L_\lambda[\varphi ])(\xi):= |\xi|^\lambda{\mathcal F}(\varphi)(\xi)\), \(\lambda\in (0,1)\). Their main theorem is the following Theorem: Let \(\lambda \in (0,1)\). There exists initial data \(u_0\in L^\infty(\mathbb R)\) such that uniqueness of weak solutions to the Cauchy problem (1) fails. To this end they use the notion of entropy solutions which has been introduced by the first author.
