Given a spectrum \(X\), let \(PX\) denote the free commutative algebra generated by \(X\). Given a natural number \(n\), let \(T(n)\) be the telescope of a \(v_n\)-self map of a finite spectrum of type \(n\). The author constructs a natural map \[ s_n(X): L_{T(n)}P(X) \to L_{T(n)}\Sigma^\infty(\Omega^\infty X)_+ \] of commutative algebras over the localized sphere spectum \(L_{T(n)}(S)\), where \(L_{T(n)}(-)\) denotes the Bousfield \(T(n)\)-localization and the subscript + denotes the disjoint union with the added point. This natural transformation \(s_n\) has the following universal property: any natural transformation from a functor invariant under \(T(n)\)-equivalences to \(L_{T(n)}\Sigma^\infty(\Omega^\infty-)_+\) factors canonically through \(s_n\). Also, the map \(s_n\) induces an isomorphism of \(L_{T(n)}\)-completions. Furthermore, for all spectra \(E\) with \(\langle T(n)\rangle\geq \langle E\rangle\), the induced map \(s_n(X): E_*(P(X))\to E_*(\Omega^\infty X)\) is monic for all \(X\). Some consequences for \(E=K(n)\) are considered. For the proofs, the author uses and develops Goodwillie calculus and a topological version of André-Quillen theory.
