    The periodic boundary value problem \[ x''+m^ 2x+g(t,x)=e(t),x(0)- x(2\pi)=x'(0)-x'(2\pi)=0 \] has at least one solution provided \(m\geq 0\) is an integer, \(e\in L^ 1\), the function \(g=g(t,x)\) satisfies \(| g(t,x)| \leq p(t)+c| x|,\) g(t,x)\(\geq A(t)\) for almost all \(t\in [0,2\pi]\) and all \(x\geq R>0\), g(t,x)\(\leq a(t)\) for almost all \(t\in [0,2\pi]\) and all \(x\leq r<0\), \(\limsup_{x\to +\infty}x^{-1}g(t,x)\leq a_{m+1}-m^ 2,\quad \limsup_{x\to -\infty}x^{-1}g(t,x)\leq b_{m+1}-m^ 2\) with strict inequalities on subsets of positive measure in \([0,2\pi]\) and \[ \int^{2\pi}_{0}e(t)v(t)dt<\int_{v>0}g_+(t)v(t)dt+\int_{v<0}g_- (t)v(t\quad)dt \] for all \(v\in Span\{\cos mt\), sin mt\(\}\) \(\setminus \{0\}\). Here the reals \(a_{m+1}\), \(b_{m+1}\) satisfy \(a_{m+1}>(1/4)(m+1)^ 2,\quad b_{m+1}>(1/4)(m+1)^ 2,\) \(a_{m+1}^{-1/2}+b_{m+1}^{-1/2}=2(m+1)^{-1}\), and \(g_+(t)=\liminf_{x\to +\infty}g(t,x),\quad g_-(t)=\limsup_{x\to - \infty}g(t,x).\)
