The aim of the paper is to study the abstract notion of Morita context in a bicategory, and to characterize Morita contexts in several bicategories. General facts are proved about strict Morita contexts and equivalent forms to the standard notions of adjointness, category equivalence and Morita equivalence are given by using profunctors and studying the collage of a profunctor.
