A map \(f : X \to Y\) is called (countable-) compact-covering if every (countable) compact \(K \subset Y\) is the image of some compact \(C \subset X\). In answer to a question by the reviewer, the authors obtain the following result: If \(f : X \to Y\) is countable-compact-covering, and if \(X\) and \(Y\) are separable metric and each \(f^{-1} (y)\) is compact, then \(f\) is compact-covering. [Note: It appears that this result is incorrect. A counterexample by G. Debs and J. Saint Raymond, as well as an acknowledgement by the authors, will appear in ``Topology Appl.''].
