The paper studies an autoparametric system consisting of a parametrically driven oscillator and an excited subsystem being in one-to-one internal resonance. For the four-dimensional autonomic system obtained by the second-order averaging of the initial equations, a global bifurcation analysis is performed. In particular, the existence of heteroclinic bifurcations and Schilnikov-type multi-pulse homoclinic orbits is investigated in detail. The energy-phase method is applied in order to identify parameter regions where the above homoclinic orbits can exist in the perturbed phase space. The main theorem provides conditions for the existence of generalized Shilnikov orbits and Smale horseshoes. Several examples of chaotic attractors are illustrated by numerical simulations.
