The paper deals with least squares (LS) estimation and linearization around an operating point. Linearization is a standard technique for linear time-invariant models (LTI) when a nonlinear model of the system is given. LS estimation is also a classical technique in system identification. The author proves the convergence of the LS method without utilizing output quasistationarity, via very explicit, simple, expressions for the LS parameter estimates. Furthermore the paper develops the concept of nearly linear systems, which are a natural generalization of LTI systems. Control of such systems is also studied by using the notion of bounded input (output) stability in the \(l_\infty\) sense. Illustrative examples are treated in the last section of this paper.
