The author investigates boundary values of the resolvent of selfadjoint operators \(H\) in \(L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)\) using recent versions of the conjugate operator method (as developed by Boutet de Monvel and others). He considers operators of the form \(H= H_0+V\) where \(H_0\) is a pseudodifferential operator with constant coefficients and the perturbation \(V\) decays at infinity in some sense. The class of perturbations under consideration allows for certain combinations of short range and long range potentials. Three physical situations are included, namely the relativistic and non-relativistic Schrödinger operators and the Stark effect Hamiltonian. One obtains existence and continuity of the boundary values of the resolvent on certain subsets of \(\mathbb{R}\). The continuity assertions are optimal with respect to the Hölder-Zygmund scale. Such results also yield dispersion and propagation properties of the flow \(e^{iHt}\).
