The paper under review deals with \(C^{1,\alpha}\) weak solutions to the Dirichlet problems \[ \begin{cases} -\text{div\,} \big(a(u)|\nabla u|^{p-2}\nabla u\big) +b(u)|\nabla u|^{q}=f(u) & \text{in}\;\mathbb{R}^N_+,\\ u(x',y)>0 & \text{in}\;\mathbb{R}^N_+,\\ u(x',0)=0 & \text{on}\;\partial\mathbb{R}^N_+, \end{cases} \] where \(N\geq 2\), \(\alpha\in(0,1)\), \(1<p<2\), \(1<q\leq p\), \(a\), \(b\) and \(f\) are locally Lipschitz continuous functions, \(a(s)\geq\gamma>0\) and \(\mathbb{R}^N_+\ni x=(x',y)\) with \(x'=(x_1,\dots,x_{N-1}).\) The authors prove that any positive solution of that problem is monotone increasing with respect to the \(y\)-direction. The main ingredient in the proof is a new comparison principle in unbounded domains. As consequence, some new Liouville type theorems are obtained as well.
