The Hamiltonian matrix system \[ U'=A(t)U+B(t)V,\;\;V'=C(t)U-A^*(t)V \] is investigated aiming to develop a generalized matrix Riccati approach. Making use of the standard integral averaging method, new results regarding oscillations in the system are obtained. The paper contains an interesting example.
