Consider the following parabolic equations (\(i=1,2,\dots,k\)) \[ u_{it}=[|u_{ix}|^{p_i}(u_i^{m_i})_x]_x \quad \text{for } x>0, \quad 0<t<T, \] coupled via nonlinear boundary flux \[ -|u_{ix}|^{p_i}(u_i^{m_i})_x(0,t)=\prod_{j=1}^{k}u_j^{q_{ij}}(0,t) \quad \text{for } 0<t<T, \] with initial condition \(u_i(x,0)=u_{i0}(x)\) for \(x>0\). Here the parameters satisfy \(0<m_i<1\), \(-1<p_i<1-m_i\), \(q_{ij}>0\), \(k\geq 1\), and \(u_{i0}\) are nonnegative continuous functions with compact support in \(\mathbb{R}^+\). Using the ideas of \(M\)-matrix and sub- and super-solutions, the authors are able to provide necessary and sufficient conditions on the parameters for the global existence of nonnegative solutions to the system or the blow-up of nonnegative nontrivial solutions at finite time.
