The authors introduce a study of representation theory of wreath products of finite groups. They interpret the exponentiation and the composition actions in terms of actions on suitable trees. They use the little group method to determine a complete list of irreducible representations of wreath products of finite groups. However this procedure does not give immediately a concrete description of the matrix coefficients whose determination requires a detailed analysis of conjugacy classes. To do this the authors analyze the composition action of the wreath product on two permutation representations. In particular, they generalize Theorem 4.2 in [the authors, Adv. Math. 206, No. 2, 503--537 (2006; Zbl 1106.43006)] to the case the permutation representations are not multiplicity free. Finally, they analyze two particular examples of groups of the form \(C / G\) where \(G\) is the automorphism group of a finite graph \(X\).
