The author introduces the concepts of a primary L-fuzzy ideal and a primary L-fuzzy ideal belonging to a prime L-fuzzy ideal where L is a complete distributive lattice. Let A be an L-fuzzy ideal of a ring X and \(X_ A=\{x\in X| A(x)=A(0)\}\). A is called prime if for \(a,b\in X\), \(A(ab)=A(0)\) implies \(A(a)=A(0)\) or \(A(b)=A(0)\). A is called primary if for \(a,b\in X\), \(A(ab)=A(0)\) and A(a)\(\neq A(0)\) implies \(A(b^ n)=A(0)\) for some positive integer n. Let P be an L-fuzzy ideal of X and Q be a primary L-fuzzy ideal of X. If for every x in \(X_ P\), \(Q(x^ n)=Q(0)\) for some positive integer n, then the author shows that (1) P is a prime L-fuzzy ideal, (2) \(X_ Q\subseteq X_ P\), and (3) \(X_ P\subseteq X_ N\) for any other prime L-fuzzy ideal N such that \(X_ Q\subseteq X_ N.\) It is said that Q belongs to P or that Q is P-primary. The author then proves several results concerning this primary-prime relationship. In the following papers, different definitions and different results concerning fuzzy prime and fuzzy primary ideals can be found: \textit{D. S. Malik} and \textit{J. N. Mordeson} [``Fuzzy prime ideals of a ring'', Fuzzy Sets Syst. (to appear); ``Fuzzy maximal, radical, and primary ideals of a ring'', Inf. Sci. (to appear) and ``Fuzzy primary representations of fuzzy ideals'', Inf. Sci. (to appear)]; \textit{T. K. Mukherjee} and \textit{M. K. Sen} [Fuzzy Sets Syst. 21, 99-104 (1987; Zbl 0617.13001)]; \textit{U. M. Swamy} and \textit{K. L. N. Swamy} [``Fuzzy prime ideals of rings'', J. Math. Anal. Appl. 134, No.1, 94-103 (1988)].
