The authors examine the complete integrability of the natural Hamiltonian system specified by the Hamiltonian function \(H = (p_1^2 + p_2^2)/2 + V(q_1,q_2)\), where \(V\) is a rational homogeneous polynomial of degree \(k\). Using Morales-Ramis theory, they characterize polynomial integrability of Hamiltonian systems with a homogeneous potential of degree \(-3\). In another main result they extend a theorem of Maciejewski and Przybylska about the relationship between the nontrivial eigenvalues of the Hessian of \(V\) calculated at a Darboux point to a family of Hamiltonian systems with potentials given by an inverse of a homogeneous polynomial. They also present three open problems related to the polynomial integrability of Hamiltonian systems with a rational potential.
