A model for carrier-facilitated diffusion leads the authors to study a system of the form \[ \epsilon u''+f(u,v)=\epsilon M,\quad \epsilon \delta v''-f(u,v)=0,\quad in\quad (0,1)\quad with\quad f(u,v)=kv^ m- u^ n(\lambda -\nu v)^{\rho}. \] They first discuss an expansion of u, v in terms of \(\delta^{1/2}\) and then the same in terms of \(\epsilon\). They also study the case when there is a depletion zone in the interval (0,1) which leads to a free boundary value problem. Numerical solutions finally illustrate their calculations.
