A\(\in {\mathbb{C}}_{n\times n}\) is called light if there exists a positive \(n\times n\) matrix X such that \(AX=XA\). A is called a Perron matrix if there exists a polynomial p(\(\lambda)\) such that \(p(A)>0\). If A is non- negative, A is irreducible if and only if it is Perron; it is then light, with \(X=p(A)\). The author shows that the study of light matrices is closely related to the study of the matrix equation \(AX=XB\), with \(A,B>0\); and relates the properties of light and Perron matrices.
