A method of obtaining pointwise upper and lower bounds for the solutions of a general class of nonlinear boundary value problems is discussed. As an illustrative example, this method is shown to yield sharp polynomial approximations to the solution of the oxygen diffusion problem in spherical cells with oxygen uptake by Michaelis-Menten kinetics.
