The author presents a nonstandard and implicit finite difference scheme for solving a general class of two-dimensional and coupled dissipative nonlinear modified Klein-Gordon equations with constant mass, internal and external damping coefficients, and Josephson current, submitted to harmonic (mixed or Dirichlet) boundary-driving on two adjacent borders. The finite difference scheme is a conditionally stable and consistent method of order \(O(\Delta t^{2})\) that generalizes a previous numerical technique in one spatial dimension. Also, the scheme yields consistent approximations of the local energies of the individual junctions, of the total energy of the system and, moreover, of the rate of change of energy of the system with respect to time. Results show that the transmission of energy in the system starts at a well-defined nonnegative lower threshold, after which the creation of localized intrinsic modes that move away from the driving boundaries is imminent. Generalizations of these schemes can easily provided for the corresponding problems involving three spatial coordinates.
