Let \(G\) be a group and \(K\) a commutative ring. A \(K[G]\)-module \(V\) is called a Thompson module if \(V=O_G+O_G\) for some \(G\)-orbit \(O_G\) of \(V\). Let \(R\) be an irreducible root system and \(K\) a field such that \(|K|>|R^+|\). Further, let \(G=\widetilde G(K)\) where \(\widetilde G\) is a simple algebraic group corresponding to \(R\), defined and split over \(K\), and let \(L=\widetilde L(K)\) where \(\widetilde L\) is the Lie algebra of \(\widetilde G\). The author shows, if \(\text{char\,}K=0\) or a very good prime with respect to \(R\), then \(L\) is a Thompson \(G\)-module with respect to the adjoint action. For the group \(G=\text{SL}_2(K)\) where \(K\) is an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, he lists all rational \(K[G]\)-modules \(V\) that have an orbit \(O\subset V\) such that \(\overline{O+O}=V\).
