Thābit's rule, and, in brief, the contents of his text are given. A conjecture is added to tell how Thābit might have come about the rule. This conjecture is built upon the two amicable numbers, 220 and 284, already given by Iamblichus. Some readers may find that the conjecture may be more complicated than Thābit's ten theorems which lead to his rule. Modern findings have shown that his conditions are necessary but not sufficient, thus giving at least one pair of amicable numbers, which does not agree in full with his rule.
