In this paper, the authors consider the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation \(i\partial_t u+\Delta u+|u|^{p-1}u=0\) in \(\mathbb{R}^N\) with spatial dimension \(N\geq 2\), and in the mass supercritical and energy subcritical range \(1+4/N<p<\min(1+4/(N-2), 5)\). For initial data \(u_0\in H^1\) with radial symmetry, and assuming that the corresponding solution \(u \in C([0,T), H^1(\mathbb{R}^N)\) blows up in finite time \(t= T\), the authors prove a universal upper bound on the blow-up rate, more precisely, \[ \int_t^T (T-\tau)\|\nabla u(\tau)\|_{L^2}^2d\tau \leq C(u_0)(T-t)^{2\alpha/(1+\alpha)} \] with \(\alpha=\frac{5-p}{(p-1)(N-1)}\). Moreover, the authors prove that this bound is sharp in all dimensions and attained on a family of collapsing ring blow-up solutions, which was first formally predicted in the breakthrough paper [\textit{G. Fibich} et al., Physica D 231, No. 1, 55--86 (2007; Zbl 1118.35043)].
