Mathematical modelling of the self-propagating high temperature synthesis process is based upon a coupling between a parabolic PDE for enthalpy balance and a differential equation for the exothermic chemical kinetics. The FVM is well suited for the discretization of PDEs written in conservation form. So, authors construct the implicit -- backward Euler-finite-volume scheme and establish an error estimate for the discrete approximation of the reaction-diffusion equation. Numerous simulations in one and two spatial dimensions are presented.
