In this paper, the authors consider the hydrodynamics of active liquid crystals in the Beris-Edwards hydrodynamic framework with the Laudau-de Gennea Q-tensor order parameter to describe liquid crystalline ordering. Basing on the energy estimates and some crucial cancellations, the authors show the existence of global weak solutions in two and three spatial dimensions, and the higher regularity and the uniqueness of weak-strong solutions only in two spatial dimensional case.
