For any bounded domain \(\Omega\subset\mathbb C^n\) let \(d^K_{\Omega}\) denote the Kobayashi metric of \(\Omega\). Moreover, let \(\Delta\) denote the unit disc in \(\mathbb C\) and recall that \(\phi:\Delta\to\Omega\) is called a complex geodesic if \(\phi\) is an isometry for the Kobayashi distances on \(\Delta\) and \(\Omega\). Finally, a map \(f:\mathbb C^{n_1}\to\mathbb C^{n_2}\) is called anti-holomorphic if \(df\circ J_1=-J_2\circ df\), where \(J_j\) denotes the standard complex structure on the Euclidean space \(\mathbb C^{n_j}\), \(j=1,2\). The main result of the paper under review is the following: Let \(\Omega\subset\mathbb C^n\) be a bounded \(\mathcal C^3\) smooth strongly convex domain (i.e.~for any two points \(z,w\in\overline{\Omega}\) the open line segment \((z,w)\) is contained in \(\Omega\)) and let \(f:(\Delta,d^K_{\Delta})\to(\Omega,d^K_{\Omega})\) be an isometry. Then \(f=\phi\circ\mu\), where \(\phi\) is a complex geodesic at \(f(0)\) and \(\mu\) is a conformal or an anticonformal automorphism of \(\Delta\) preserving the origin. As a corollary the authors obtain the following theorem: Let \(\Omega_j\subset\mathbb C^{n_j}\) be a bounded \(\mathcal C^3\) smooth strongly convex domain, \(j=1,2\). If \(\phi:(\Omega_1,d^K_{\Omega_1})\to(\Omega_2,d^K_{\Omega_2})\) is an isometry, then \(\phi\) is either holomorphic or antiholomorphic. This theorem generalizes the results obtained by \textit{H.~Seshadri} and \textit{K.~Verma} in [Ann. Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa, Cl. Sci. (5) 5, No. 3, 393--417 (2006; Zbl 1170.32309)] and \textit{K.~T.~Kim} and \textit{S.~G.~Krantz} in [Complex Var. Elliptic Equ. 54, No. 3--4, 355--369 (2009; Zbl 1172.32002)].
