A second-order Hamiltonian-type model of predation by aggregating starfish on hard coral is considered. A small perturbation of the system generates a stable limit cycle for the populations. A method of nonlinear adaptive identification for coefficients and states of the system is developed. The method relies on a predictor system and adaptive laws which are based on the field read-out data.
