Let \(M_{m, n}(X)\) be the vector space of \(m\times n\) matrices with entries in a vector space \(X\). If \(T: X\to X\) is a linear map, then the \((m, n)\)-amplification of \(T\) is the linear map \(T_{m, n}: M_{m, n}(X)\to M_{m, n}(X)\) given by \(T_{m, n}[x_{ij}]=[Tx_{ij}]\) for any \([x_{ij}]\in M_{m, n}(X)\). Given a norm \(\| \cdot \| \) on \(X\), the operator norm of \(T\) is \(\| T\| =\sup \{ \| Tx\| : x\in X, \| x\| \leq 1\} \). If we are given norms on \(M_{m, n}(X)\) for all \(m, n\in \mathbb {N}\), then the completely bounded norm of \(T\) is \(\| T\| _{cb}=\sup _{m, n\geq 1}\{ \| T_{m, n}\| \} \). The space of all \(m\times n\) complex matrices and the algebra of all \(n\times n\) diagonal matrices are denoted by \(M_{m, n}\) and \(D_n\), respectively. It has been proved that if \(T\) is a \(D_m\)-\(D_n\) bimodule map on \(M_{m, n}\), then \(T\) is a Schur multiplier and \(\| T\| _{cb}=\| T\| \). In this paper, the authors show that if \(n=2\) and \(T\) is a right \(D_2\)-module map on \(M_{m, 2}\), then \(\| T\| _{cb}=\| T\|\). However, this property fails if \(m\geq 2\) and \(n\geq 3\). For \(m\geq 3\) and \(n=3, 4\) or \(n\geq m^2\), the authors give examples of maps \(T\) attaining the supremum \[ C(m, n)=\sup \{ \| T\| _{cb}: T \text{ is a right }D_n\text{-module map on } M_{m ,n} \text{ with } \| T \| \leq 1\} . \] They show that \(C(m, m^2)=\sqrt {m}\) and find some results for \(C(m, n)\) in certain other cases. Editorial remark: See [Zbl 1456.46047] for a correction.
