Chaos in the sense of Li-Yorke and Devaney for shift and weighted shift maps are studied. Li-Yorke chaotic sets are characterized by p-scrambled sets, maximal scrambled sets and orbit invariants. It is proven that weighted shift maps are Li-Yorke chaotic in some cases. Some open problems are registered at the end of the paper.
