Nonlinear Volterra integrodifferential control systems with unconstrained values of controls are considered. Using a Schauder fixed point theorem and the notion of the comparison principle, a sufficient condition for complete controllability in a given finite-time interval is formulated and proved. In the proof of the main result certain results taken from the theory of nonlinear transformations in Banach spaces are used. Moreover, the controllability conditions require an exact controllability of an associated linear control system. Finally, the paper contains many remarks and comments concerning controllability problems for different types of Volterra integrodifferential control systems. Relations to results existing in the literature are also presented. Similar controllability considerations can be found for example in the publication [\textit{K. Balachandran}, Kybernetika 25, 505-508 (1989; Zbl 0701.93005)].
