The authors consider the Lorentz space \(\Gamma_{p,\omega}\) for \(0<p<\infty\) and a measurable nonnegative function (called the weight function) \(\omega\). The space \(\Gamma_{p,\omega}\) is defined as the set of all Lebesgue measurable functions \(f\in L^0\) such that \(\int_0^\gamma (f^{**}(t))^p\omega(t)\,dt<\infty\), where \(0<\gamma\leq\infty\), \(L^0\) is the space of Lebesgue measurable functions on the interval \([0,\gamma)\), \(\omega:[0,\gamma)\rightarrow [0,\infty)\) and \(f^{**}(t)=H^1f(t)=\frac{1}{t}\int_0^t f^*(t)\,dt\) is the Hardy operator. The space \(\Gamma_{p,\omega}\) is endowed with the norm \[ \left\|f\right\|=\left(\int_0^\gamma \left(f^{**}(t)\right)^p\omega(t)\,dt\right)^{1\slash p}. \] In Theorem 1, criteria for non-squareness of the space \(\Gamma_{p,\omega}\) are presented. Theorem 2 concerns the same problem, but for the space \(\left(\Gamma_{p,\omega}\right)_a\) of order continuous elements from \(\Gamma_{p,\omega}\) in place of \(\Gamma_{p,\omega}\). Let us recall that a normed real space \((X,\left\|.\right\|)\) is said to be non-square if \(\min(\left\|x+y\right\|,\left\|x-y\right\|)<2\) for any \(x,y\in X\) with \(\left\|x\right\|\leq 1\) and \(\left\|y\right\|\leq 1\).
