The radial Schrödinger equation \(y''(r)+[E-\ell (\ell +1)/r^ 2- V(r)]y(r)=0\) (where V(r) is the potential and \(\ell (\ell +1)/r^ 2\) is the centrifugal potential) is considered. A Numerov-type fourth-order method, with phase lag of order eight is suggested. A numerical example for the integration of the resonance problem shows that the results of this method are better than those obtained by the Numerov method or by the method developed by \textit{M. M. Chawla} and \textit{P. S. Rao} [J. Comput. Appl. Math. 15, 329-337 (1986; Zbl 0598.65054)].
