The geometric framework of this paper is an irreducible bounded symmetric domain \(D\) in a complex vector space \(Z\), with the Shilov boundary \(S\). The Hardy space \(H^2(S)\) is the space of functions in \(L^2(S)\) with a holomorphic extension in \(D\). For a smooth function \(f\) on \(S\), the Toeplitz operator \(T_f\) is defined by \(T_h\psi =P(f\psi )\) for \(\psi \in H^2(S)\), where \(P\) is the orthogonal projection from \(L^2(S) \) onto \(H^2(S)\). The operators \(T_f\) generate the Toeplitz \(C^*\)-algebra \({\mathcal T}(S)\). The aim of the paper is to introduce the Dixmier trace for commutators \([T_f,T_g]\). But in general such a comumutator is not compact. To solve the problem the authors consider a sub-Hardy space \(H_1^2(S)\). This subspace of the Hardy space \(H^2(S)\) is defined via the Peter-Weyl decomposition of the space \(H^2(S)\): \[ H^2(S)=\sum _{\lambda }{\mathcal P}_{\lambda }(Z), \] where \(\lambda =(\lambda _1\geq \cdots \geq \lambda _r\geq 0)\) is a partition, and \({\mathcal P}_{\lambda}(Z)\) is an irreducible subspace of the space \({\mathcal P}(Z)\) of holomorphic polynomials. The sub-Hardy space is the Hilbert sum \[ H_1^2(S)=\sum _{\mathbf m} {\mathcal P}_{\mathbf m}(Z), \] where \(\mathbf m\) is a partition of length 1: \({\mathbf m}=(m,0,\cdots ,0)\). Let \(P_1\) be the orthogonal projection onto \(H_1^2(S)\). For a smooth function \(f\) on \(S\), the sub-Toeplitz operator \(S_f\) is the bounded operator on \(H_1^2(S)\) defined by \(S_f=P_1T_fP_1\). The authors show that, for real analytic polynomials \(f,g\), the commutator \([S_f,S_g]\) belongs to the Macaev class \({\mathcal L}^{n,\infty }\), and this property makes it possible to define the Dixmier trace of the product of \(n\) such commutators. Finally, a formula for this Dixmier trace is established as an integral over the manifold of minimal tripotents (for the Jordan triple system structure on \(Z\) associated to the bounded symmetric domain \(D\)).
