Take \(X(\cdot,t): M\longrightarrow\mathbb{R}^{n+1},\) where \(M\) is an \(n\)-dimensional smooth manifold, to be a one-parameter family of immersions of smooth hypersurfaces. The resulting family of hypersurfaces \(M_t:=X(M,t)\) is a solution to the mean curvature flow if one has \[ \partial_tX(m,t)=\mathbf{H}(m,t),\qquad m\in M,\quad t>0,\quad X(m,0)=X_0(m), \] where \(\mathbf{H}(m,t)\) is the mean curvature vector of the hypersurface \(M_t\) at \(X(m,t).\) In this paper, the author considers the case \(n=2\), and focuses the attention on surfaces that are translated by the mean curvature flow at constant speed, the so-called self-translating surfaces. These surfaces give some insight into slow forming singularities. The author gives here a general construction of self-translating surfaces which goes through a desingularization of the intersection of a finite family of reapers in general position.
