Let \(M\) be an orientable complete hyperbolic 3-manifold. The holonomy representation of \(M\) is a homomorphism from \(\pi_1(M)\) to the orientation-reserving isometry group of hyperbolic 3-space, which is isomorphic to \(\mathrm{PSL}(2,\mathbb{C})\). It is known that such a homomorphsim can be lifted to the group \(\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{C})\), which is the universal cover of \(\mathrm{PSL}(2,\mathbb{C})\). Composing such a lift with a finite-dimensional complex representation \(V\) of \(\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{C})\), one gets a representation \(\rho:\pi_1(M)\to\mathrm{SL}(V)\). In the paper under review, the authors prove a vanishing result for the cohomology of \(M\) with coefficients twisted by such a representation. The methods use techniques of Matsushima-Murakami in [\textit{Y. Matsushima} and \textit{S. Murakami}, Ann. Math. (2) 78, 365--416 (1963; Zbl 0125.10702)]. The authors also give applications to local rigidity.
