Let \(\mathscr{O}\) be an operad in simplicial sets. The authors study \(\mathscr{O}\)-algebras where some of the operations \(\mathcal{W} \subset \mathscr{O}(1)\) are required to be homotopy invertible. Inspired by the hammock localization of Dwyer-Kan, they construct a localization \(L\mathscr{O} = L^{TW}_{\mathcal{W}}\mathscr{O}\), the ``tree-hammock localization'', which is an operad under \(\mathscr{O}\) and such that operations from \(\mathcal{W}\) become homotopy invertible in \(L\mathscr{O}\). It is moreover equipped with a ``localization'' functor from \(\mathscr{O}\)-algebras to \(L\mathscr{O}\)-algebras, satisfying an appropriate universal property.
