The authors offer a thorough study of convex subsets of symmetric spaces and their stabilizers. They prove an interesting result that in the higher rank case convex sets are strongly restricted, and under certain assumptions can only arise from rank 1 constructions. This rigidity property is a phenomenon of the convex subsets that once again demonstrates the rigidity property satisfied by higher rank symmetric spaces that has no analog for rank one symmetric spaces.
