The authors continue study of the distribution of the fractional parts \(\{\alpha\gamma\}\), initiated by \textit{K. Ford} and \textit{A. Zaharescu} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 579, 145--158 (2005; Zbl 1139.11036)], where \(\alpha\) is a fixed non-zero real number and \(\gamma\) runs over the imaginary parts of the non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta-function. They further investigate the discrepancy of the sequence \(\{\alpha\gamma\}\). Several conjectures concerning this discrepancy and the behavior of the sum \(\sum_{0<\gamma\leq T} x^{i\gamma}\) are formulated. Then they relate these conjectures to the distribution of primes in short intervals and to Montgomery's pair correlation function. Obtained results are generalized for a more general \(L\)-functions, namely for the Selberg class \(\mathcal S\) of Dirichlet series.
