The representation theory of elliptic quantum groups \(A_{N-1}\) and its applications are presented. First the elliptic quantum group \(E_{\tau ,\gamma /2}( sl_{N})\) associated to \(sl_{N}\) and the construction of commuting transfer matrices associated to its representations are reviewed. New dynamical \(R\)-matrices which give rise to families of commuting difference operators are given and the Ruijsenaars system for them is recovered for a special case where the zero weight space is one-dimensional. For more general representations some ``spin generalizations'' of Ruijsenaars operators are obtained. The advantage of this reformulation in terms of transfer matrices lies in the fact that the Bethe method to find eigenvectors can be directly applied.
