The author deals with the wave equation of Kirchhoff type with acoustic boundary conditions \[ \begin{aligned} &u_{tt}-(a+b\|\nabla u\|_2^{2\gamma})\Delta u +\int_0^tg(t-s)\Delta u(s)\,\text{d}s=|u|^{k-2}u\;\text{in}\;\Omega\times (0,+\infty),\\ &u=0\;\text{on}\;\Gamma_0\times (0,+\infty),\\ & (a+b\|\nabla u\|_2^{2\gamma})\frac{\partial u}{\partial \nu}- \int_0^tg(t-s)\frac{\partial u}{\partial \nu}(s)\,\text{d}s=y_t\;\text{on}\;\Gamma_1\times (0,+\infty),\\ &u_t+p(x)y_t+q(x)y=0\;\text{on}\;\Gamma_1\times (0,+\infty),\\ &u(\cdot,0)=u_0,\,u_t(\cdot,0)=u_1\;\text{in}\;\Omega,\;y(\cdot,0)=y_0\;\text{on}\;\Gamma_1, \end{aligned} \] where \(\Omega\) is a bounded domain in \(\mathbb{R}^n,\;n\geq 1\) with a smooth boundary \(\;\Gamma=\Gamma_0\cup \Gamma_1,\;\Gamma_0\cap \Gamma_1=\emptyset\). The solution exists globally in time under some conditions for initial data. The general energy decay of global solutions is proved for a class of relaxation functions wider than that usually considered.
