This well written, clear and self contained paper develops the quantum theory of invariants in the spirit of Cayley, Sylvester, Clebsch, Gordan, Capelli and others. Starting from the quantum group \(U_q(\text{gl}(2, \mathbb{R}))\), which provides the noncommutative variables, a full fledged theory of \(q\)-deformed invariants is developed. An algebra of invariants is established and their decomposition into a Gordan-Capelli series, an instance of a straightening formula, is shown. Using braided crossed products higher binary forms are introduced. The symbolic method of Clebsch and Gordan is extended to the \(q\)-deformed case, deformed discriminants for quadratic and cubic forms are examined, which results in new invariants which have no classical analog. The paper is detailed, contains full proofs and lots of valuable remarks. Concrete examples facilitate the understanding of the general method and give various hints about the usage of the method. The invariants have been calculated partly by computer algebra necessary to handle the extensive expressions. However, the presentation does not suffer from this fact.
