The paper is devoted to the existence of the Green function for the second-order elliptic operator \(-\nabla\cdot a\nabla\) in \(\mathbb{R}^d\), where \(d>2\), and \(a\) is a bounded, \(\lambda\)-coercive and measurable tensor field \(a:\mathbb{R}^d\to\mathcal{L}(\mathbb{R}^{m\times d};\mathbb{R}^{m\times d})\) with \(m\) a positive integer. The authors show that the set \(\Sigma\) of points \(y\in \mathbb{R}^d\) for which the Green function \(G(\cdot,y)\) centered in \(y\) does not exist has \(p\)-capacity zero for an exponent \(p>2\) which depends only on the dimension \(d\) and the ellipticity ratio \(\lambda\).
