The paper under review considers the following continuum alloy-type random Schrödinger operator \[ \omega\mapsto H_{\omega} := H_0 + \lambda\sum_{k\in {\mathbb Z}^d}\omega_ku_k\,,\quad \lambda \geq 0, \] in \(L^2({\mathbb R}^d)\) in the \textit{region of complete localization} [\textit{F. Germinet} and \textit{A. Klein}, J. Stat. Phys. 122, No. 1, 73--94 (2006; Zbl 1127.82031)], to study effects of its perturbation \(H_{\omega}^{\tau} : = H_{\omega} +\tau W\) by a bounded compactly supported potential \(W\) with coupling constant \(\tau\). Here \(H_0 := -\Delta+ V_0\) is a non-random Schrödinger operator with a bounded \({\mathbb Z}^d\)-periodic potential \(V_0\), \(\omega:=(\omega_k)_{k\in {\mathbb Z}^d} \in {\mathbb R}^{{\mathbb Z}^d}\) is an independently and identically distributed sequence of random variables according to the probability measure \({\mathbb P} := \otimes_{k\in {\mathbb Z}^d}{\mathbb P} _0\) with the single-site distribution \({\mathbb P} _0\) being absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure having bounded density \(\rho\) with \(\operatorname{supp}\rho \subseteq (0,1]\), and \(u_k := u(\cdot - k)\) are translates of \(0 \leq u \in L_c^{\infty}({\mathbb R})\) such that \(\sum_{k\in {\mathbb Z}^d} u_k\) is bounded away from zero. The main outcome is that when the Fermi energies are in the region of complete localization, Anderson orthogonality does occur with a non-zero probability. The proof is through the analysis around the spectral shift function of the pair \((H_{\omega}, H^{\tau}_{\omega})\) for these energies. The authors also refer to some non-rigorous findings of the fact concerned in the physics literature.
