Motivated by String Theory, the authors try to create some order among Calabi-Yau threefolds by using asymptotic Hodge Theory to classify them. More precisely, they use a structure which appears at the large volume limit and which roughly corresponds to the Hodge decomposition of the third cohomology at the boundary of the moduli space. This classification is rougher but much more amenable to manipulation than the characterization of their homotopy types by Wall using Hodge numbers, triple intersection numbers and divisor integrals of the second Chern class. Via mirror symmetry, the authors actually study the setup in the Kähler moduli space where limits correspond to decompactification limits. These large volume degenerations not being unique, the authors consider all of them simultaneously by encoding their structure in a decorated Hasse diagram which they call enhancement diagram. One of the perks of this classification is the ability to detect e.g. the presence of elliptic or K3 fibrations. Furthermore, the authors study the examples constructed by \textit{M. Kreuzer} and \textit{H. Skarke} [Adv. Theor. Math. Phys. 4, No. 6, 1209--1230 (2000; Zbl 1017.52007)] as well as complete intersection Calabi-Yau threefolds inside the product of projective spaces.
