Consider the Lagrangian system (1) \({d\over dt} {\partial L \over \partial\dot q} = {\partial L \over \partial q}\), where \(L(q,\dot q)={1\over 2} | \dot q|^ 2-\varphi(| q|)+{1 \over 2}\sum b_{ij}(q)\dot q_ i \dot q_ j-U(q)\), \(q\in R^ n\), \(\varphi\in C^ 2(0,\infty)\), \(U\in C^ 2(R^ n-\{0\})\), \(b_{ij}=b_{ji}\in C^ 2(R^ n)\). The existence of periodic, noncollision solutions with energy \(h\) of (1) is studied with applications to Kepler type problems and the restricted \(N\)-body problem.
