The author's aim is to show that Sierpiński's gasket, the name was introduced by Mandelbrot in 1975, is the simplest two-dimensional recursive geometric object. To this end the paper includes remarks concerning the encounters of four persons with the gasket. Hence, its feature is mainly historical, but nevertheless a very interestingly written exposition on the subject.
