The authors show that for \(f(\lambda, \varepsilon) = \text{det} (\lambda^2I + \lambda (1 + \varepsilon) C + K)\), \(\varepsilon\) representing a perturbation, its Newton diagram for the expansion in \(\lambda - \lambda_0\) and \(\varepsilon\) has a point on or below the line \(x + y = b\) where \(\lambda_0\) is a nonzero root of \(f (\lambda, 0)\) and \(b\) is the multiplicity of 0 as an eigenvalue of \(\lambda_0^2I + \lambda_0C + K\), and related results. This generalizes work of \textit{H. Langer}, \textit{B. Najman} and \textit{K. Veselic} [SIAM J. Matrix Anal. Appl. 13, No. 2, 474-489 (1992; Zbl 0752.15009)].
