Having in view applications in biological macromolecules, the authors consider waves in an anharmonic molecular chain the particles of which can move in both longitudinal and transverse directions. The model also takes into account first- and second-neighbour interactions. Soliton solutions are obtained by numerical minimization of an appropriate Lagrangian (after spatial discretization) and by disregarding solution profiles which are not localized (bell-shaped) and smooth. The authors are interested in physical properties of and interactions between such solutions.
