The paper deals with difference approximations of the mildly nonlinear elliptic equation \[ \sum_{i,j=1}^2 A_{i,j} (x_1,x_2) \frac{\partial^2u} {\partial x_i\partial x_j}= f\biggl( x_1, x_2, u, \frac{\partial u}{\partial x_1},\frac{\partial u}{\partial x_2} \biggr) \] under special conditions on \(f\). Some nine-point difference scheme is suggested with \(O(h^4)\)-accuracy for the Dirichlet problem in a square and the square grid. Applications to the Navier-Stokes system in polar coordinates are discussed and numerical examples are given.
