The authors investigate numerically the time-dependent deformation of axisymmetric drops suspended in an axisymmetric flow of a Newtonian fluid. The drops are assumed to be sufficiently small to neglect the inertia forces. The numerical results for the drop containing a Newtonian fluid are compared with existing theoretical results. For the drop containing a non-Newtonian fluid, specifically the Oldroyd-B fluid, the response to a suddenly started elongation flow has been examined.
